(Dr. Kalnoski performing the bone marrow biopsy in the HIP area.)
After a frustrating day yesterday, I turned on the ITunes and Bob Dylan's "Like a rolling stone" was the first shuffled song to play. I've heard it probably over a hundred times, this time I paid attention! I found the attached early version of a live performance after a little research, the story of Bob Dylan going electric is very interesting. Bob was even booed early on for performing electrically after his early folk/acoustic beginning.
The song actually started out as a long verse, Dylan was writing poems and songs at a unbelievable pace in 1965, Rolling Stone was whittled down to a 6 plus minute tune (way too long in 1965 for traditional radio play.) It sill got released and made it to number two behind the Beatles "Help." Open to interpretation of course, my read on Dylan's song finally made sense today. Someone loses standing, money, fame, whatever might be important to them. The ending made me clue in to the fact that losing what is important or dealing with tragedy can actually be a cleansing experience. These final lyrics made it make sense to me:
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
My last chemo session started as usual- a bit disorganized. Eventually had a spinal infusion last night at 6:00 PM, then a C T scan at 9:00 PM and chemo at 10:00 PM. The CT showed a reduction in my original mass- most likely scar tissue. I had a bone marrow biopsy this morning and results will be back Thursday. The chemo is flowing 26 hours straight right now, keeping me on the tenth floor for awhile. 10A6, and my inside phone number is 253-426-4100 ext. 127-1016. Live Happy-
Welcome to my Blog
I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

So by 4 PM tomorrow you will be finished with the hard part, and it's a cruise back to health. This has been a long race, and you have earned the finish line with a strong spirit and fantastic attitude. Well done! Live strong!
Great picture, however both you and the good doctor seem to be smiling a bit too much for this to be just a normal marrow biopsy, I am happy you have found a new friend. I am proud of you and Yvonne and the way you both took charge of your team and lead us by example all the way to the top of the tower last weekend. The strength you both show and share with us is a true inspiration, we are all a bit better off having you both in our lives. Stay strong.
i'm glad you are keeping us all up to date. Les and will keep you in our prayers.
Love, Cathy
About losing what's important,
I think a illness such as cancer forces a person to look at what's really important, not stuff but relationships and who we are inside.
Cathy
Also I'm sure you would agree that this is a humbling experience. Whenever a crisis enters your life, there's a realization that it's not all in your hands. You have to trust the health professionals, and if the person believes in a higher power, trust that your fate is in good hands :)
X, Phil, Cathy- I take great inspiration in just hearing from you all and agreeing I might add. Phil, it was great seeing you and Cindy, and I am remiss not thanking Cindy (and Gordon) for providing banking and other support while we were climbing. Cathy, humbling to say the least. What is inside is much more important than position or power! Please keep the prayers and communications coming, they are helping more than I can put into words.

Per your request, my favorite Apache blessing:
"May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being. May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life."
Live Strong!
Greg, you handle everything with such grace and ease!! You are an inspiration! Thank you for being a friend. :-) Live Strong and Happy!
Wow X, I am looking that one up as I live strong and happy. Thanks Alice- you are too kind. Greg
