Good Saturday to everyone, here's to a blue sky in your weekend plans! Sorry I am posting a little late about my transplant experience. As you can probably tell my title post today indicates that things went well. Other than what seemed to be endless delays in starting the procedure I did receive a small bag of a complete stranger's condensed bone marrow stem cells with Yvonne by my side. It took two hours to transfuse the cells into my bloodstream and we finished with a half hour to spare before the cells were expired. I will admit to some anxiety due to the delays and slow delivery.
"Blue Sky" is a song about Dickie Betts' and the love he expressed to his wife nicknamed Bluesky. Dickie of the Allman Brothers Band handled his first lead vocals for the group and the song is known for the dueling guitar solos between Duane Allman and Dickie. Duane died shortly after this song was recorded in a motorcycle accident. I just like the positive quality to the lyrics and melody.
Welcome to my Blog
I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

Uncle Mike sent me a Birthday announcement for jaju's sister, Ann. She turned 100 this year. There's a pic of her, she looks good for 100! I sent her a card but I'm not sure if it got to her or not. Ann Dymerski Goclowski.
I'm not as brave or strong as you've been. Les admires you for all the courage you've shown.

Hi Greg,
how are you doing? I hope you are recovering and getting stronger.
Love, Cathy
I am feeling so-so, some nausea and my blood levels are down to zero in many of the categories causing me to be pretty weak. The weather forecast is: Cloudy, rain showers worsening towards the end of this week. The extended forecast is much better! I appreciate the concern. Greg
I'll keep you in my prayers this week, that your blood levels improve.
Love, Cathy
Greg, I will continue to pray for your recovery! :-)
Greg is not having a good day, today but this is expected for another week at least. He has sores forming in tne mouth and maybe the throat.Due to this his pain level has gone up. He has had 2 chemo boosters so far to fight grafter vs host disease. He is remaining positive and walking when able.
thanks for the update, Yvonne.
I feel so bad for what he's going through. I'll keep him in my prayers. I wish I could be there,
Love, Cathy
Greg: Hang in there, you are stronger than this disease I know you will beat it. There are better days just around the bend. Both you and Yvonne are in our prayers. Phil
I hope this morning finds you improving,
Love, Cathy
Very sorry to learn that there is pain and discomfort. Stay strong and I trust that you can overcome it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Yvonne. Drink a lot of water and sleep a lot. Hope you will feel better very soon! :-)
Greg is 5 days post transplant. Unfortunately his mouth and throat sores and constrictions are worse. He had a platelet transfusion yesterday and the result rising platelet count. His white count that fights off infections are non existent and will be for awhile. He is unable to eat and keep food down at this time. He is on intravenous feeding for a few days until his mouth and throat sores improve. He can eat whenever he wants. A pain pump has been put in place to use as needed. Greg does a lot of sleeping and resting.I will keep everybody updated until Greg feels like doing his blog again.
Just tell Greg that I love him and pray that he feels better soon.
Cathy
Yvonne, We are praying for better things with Greg. We also pray for you. Keep us up to date. Love Dad and Alice
Thank you Yvonne for your update on Greg's condition. You and Greg are both in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself!
Greg is 6 days post transplant. He will get his 3rd dose of Methetrexate(unsure of spelling) to help with grafters vs host disease even though it is a chemo drug. His counts are down and on higher doses of pain meds. The meds make him sleep and forget some of the pain for awhile. The intravenous feeding was started last night. All that is happening is expected 6 days post transplant. He just started a low grade fever. This being watched closely.
thanks for the update. I pray that he'll feel better soon.
Love, Cathy
Greg, Yvonne, We hope things will get better. Everybody is pulling for you. Our prayers are with you. love Dad and Alice
Post transplant day seven. Gregs` fever is a little more elevated than yesterday. Blood cultures are being taken but the Dr. thinks this is the usual side affects of radiation and chemo. The ulcers in his mouth and throat are a little worse. Rest and sleep are the Doctors orders along with blood and platelet transfusions today.
Big hugs and well wishes going to Greg and you Yvonne! Hang in there!! As long as the Dr. is saying this is all expected in the normal path of this treatment and the body is fighting to get well, we can only pray the pain is temporary and can be managed! Thinking of both you and Greg....
Great to hear that you finished under the gun so to speak! Michelle and I are pulling for you every day. If you or Yvonne ever need anything around the house or done around town let us know, we are only a couple of minutes away and more than happy to help. Stay strong.
Greg and Yvonne,
Finally getting back to the computer and blogs. I can only do it from my office and have been home more lately since school is out. It was good to talk to Yvonne the other night. Sounds like things are a bit rough now. I am sorry. It is astounding to think about what you have been through, Greg, and how well you really are doing! You have come so far these last 9?months! Things will only get better from here, right?!
We have blue sky here today after powerful winds and frightening storms yesterday.
Much love and prayers,
Mary D.
Greg and Yvonne,
CID folks are always stopping by my desk asking how you're doing, and I get calls from your pals downtown and at the precincts.
I passed on your good wishes to Dave Germani at his retirement party. He wanted me to let you know that you're in his thoughts and prayers.
I feel that you were so strong going in--that's what will carry you through this. Yvonne has been there for you, comforting and supporting, and I'm sure that has helped in your recovery.
I know you're eyeing that Lemond bike at the end of the hallway...
Call anytime,
Cindy and Bob
