Hi everyone! This is Yvonne once again. Greg is now 18 days post transplant. It has been a rough 2-3 weeks for Greg but I wanted to let everyone know that Greg has a very small amount of white cell and neutrophil counts starting to show. This is very good news and it can be a sign the graft may be taking. As these counts increase and kick in, this will help reduce the mouth , throat, stomach and intestinal sores. These cells help fight off infection. We have heard the white counts can fade in and out initially. Of course we hope this does not happen.
I think the Doctors were pleased and possibly relieved. The main doctor was even worried a little. The team of Doctors see the patients all at one time along with any members of the health care team seeing Greg. There are also different doctors visiting from other countries. It is very interesting. There have been up to 7 doctors at one time seeing Greg in his room.
Today Greg is more alert and talking a little better. He had a bag of platelets transfused. One day and step at a time. He has a new saying` that he is not running a marathon in two weeks`.
( maybe four?)
We will keep everyone updated. Live healthy and happy.
Welcome to my Blog
I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

I'm glad to hear he's making progress. Yes, one day at a time.
Love, Cathy
Greg, you may not be running 26.2 but you are in a marathon and every step forward counts. Glad to hear that things are progressing. Live Strong!
Unfortunately Greg found out today he has contacted a blood infection called VRE- vancomycin-resistive enterococci. He is now in isolation. Everybody needs to gown and glove up.This was the reason for fevers the last 10+ days.He is talking better. The end of last week he stated feeling different and not good. It took 5 days for the blood cultures to get these results. His white counts went down slightly today.
Happy hump day everybody!
I took our oldest son Andrew to the airport this early am to go back work ans his home in Steamboat. It was nice having him here and I miss him already.
I'm sorry to hear about the setback. I hope he's able to fight that nasty infection.

Greg walked alot today and quicker. He set back in one area but improved in others.
Yes that seems to happen, but I know Greg is strong and he can beat this. Give him a hug for me!
Cathy
Greg, you can beat this infection. Sometimes it looks like one step forward and a half step back. Love you, Dad and Alice
Still Praying, and you are running the longest marathon that you will ever run !
Lord Bless and keep You and Yours

Thanks again folks my army of more than one! My Mediterranean dream team of doctors say hi too! I will post some pics tomorrow showing the good and bad so far. Feeling fortunate and blessed to be happy. Greg
Greg continues to make good progress. White counts doubled, reds staying stable and platelets dropped. The platelets take 2months to 100 days to stabilize on their own.
Greg walked 8 laps so far this am approximately 3/4 mile.I think this is the farthest yet.
Mouth sores are improving with periods of pain but things are always changing for the good. His temp is actually normal for the 1st time in 3 wks since he usually runs low anyway.
Hang in there Greg, Yvonne too. Prayers and thoughts are going your way. Take care.... Bob Meyer
You know it's the last few miles of the marathon that are the most difficult. I had a friend say "it doesn't even start until mile 20." You are in that difficult home stretch but you know how glorious you'll feel when make it through the race. You are doing so amazingly well! Keep up the most excellent work!
We are thinking about you!
love,
Mary D.

There's a Church close by in Maui very similar to New Hope, called Hope chapel. We're gonna go check it out Sunday. Same size, music, etc. I sure love Maui,
