Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"What Goes On"

John Lennon wrote "What Goes On" in the early days before the Beatles even had a recording contract. They didn't use the song until the Rubber Soul (U.K.) and Yesterday and Today albums (USA) in 1965. It was deemed a good Ringo song and he was also given for the first and last time- a song writing credit for the tune. A simple country like song, also known for the Carl Perkins like guitar work of George Harrison.

Since my release from the hospital last Wednesday we have had quite a roller coaster ride. I developed a super high heart rate that caused me to lay down much of the time, and then to sweeten the pot a bit more a nasty bout of diarrhea Thursday-Sunday. Thanks to a lot of good care from Yvonne and the team of outpatient care providers I turned it around Sunday and am feeling much better today. Yvonne and I went on a 5 block walk Sunday night, and another walk this morning. We are in line as I write this to get my first bone marrow aspiration/biopsy since before I went in for the transplant. We are trying to make the best of our living quarters. Our daughter Natalie arrives from Hawaii this Friday for a week long stay, and I hope to sneak home over the weekend if I continue to improve. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes, one step at a time! Living Happy in Seattle, Greg

Greg,

I'm still regularly following your progress and wish you well. I can see a book being written when you finish this roller coaster ride......and what a ride it has turned out to be.

Your blog and sharing your thoughts is a very positive thing. It reminds me to not take a normal boring day for granted. I'm also guessing it is good for you to express yourself and by doing so freeing up energy to heal.

Heal Greg, heal! Wait a minute that sounds like I'm talking to my dog. How about.... continue your good progress. I'm rooting for you.

Hi! I am so glad you write all of this so we can read the real deal instead of relying on what's being said around here!
I had the craziest dream the other night that you were in your office totally rocking out! I'm pretty sure it wasn't to Rick Springfield! :-( Your hair was so long & shaggy you needed a haircut--BADLY!!! :-)
I hope you're getting the best care!

Good to hear things are getting better. We are back from our Gates of Lodore river trip. We are still drying out after a huge low pressure parked over the River for the days we were on it. The rain flowed like it does in November in Enumclaw. I'll check in later, hi Yvonne and Natalie. NebraskaA

Thanks for the comments especially to the two newer commentators Susie and Daryl. I also dream of waking with a full head of curly hair! Daryl we took a detour today and ended up in Enumclaw so I could visit with my Dog Sadie. A very nice break from 40 days in and around the big city. I am hoping I wake up with added vigor and a full head of hair Wednesday! I will keep dreaming. Greg

Dad, sometimes you have to go for it and not ask too many questions. We are back in rainy Seattle this AM. Greg

And he never said "Alan, Alan, Alan." Or is he still saying that?!! A happy Father's day shout out to JD. And to Greg. I am finally checking back in after being away from my office and computer for a long time. So very sorry to hear it has been so rough. I am glad you are letting us know "what goes on." And I am so glad to hear you are getting out walking--that's excellent.
Cathy, yes, I was wishing we had been in Maui instead of camping in the rain while spending the days wet and cold on a river at flood stage. But It was still good.
Hope you had a wonderful trip.
Greg and Yvonne - hope the progress and healing continue in huge ways. Enjoy your visit with Natalie.
We are always thinking of you.
love,
Mary D.

There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home. Sometimes the best medicine is what your heart and soul needs not what the doctor prescribes. Glad to hear you are feeling a little better.

The best medicine in the world is a lab as we know Greg. I remember begging for forgiveness many times in SeaTac and you knew I was and why. ep, sometimes you just have to be defiant and that's okay. Take care stay well and keep going....Bob meyer
