Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"Act Naturally"

Howdy world! I hope everyone is having a great summer and those holidays and vacations are paying dividends. Heck, some of you might just be heading out for the vacation in the coming weeks. One of my regrets is not being able to take Yvonne on a real vacation or real stress relief all summer. Now that I think about it, I really miss vacationing with the whole family. (I know, summer is still here for a bit.)
The Beatles recorded the Help album in 1965. The U. S. version was actually a movie soundtrack first, music album second. As the boys were finishing the album they had an unwritten policy of ensuring Ringo sang at least one song per album. Ringo's original song for Help was deemed not quite good enough, so off to Country and Western and after a just a day they produced a Beatles cover version of Buck Owens' "Act Naturally." Other trivia, "Act Naturally" was the last official cover song laid down by the Beatles on an album. This attached video shows a real live version, some great banter and real Ringo modesty.

As far as my cancer stuff, I am at day 87 today, getting very close to the official day 100 send off. I have developed graft vs. host disease of the mouth, and it might be starting in my skin in the legs. The good news is that GVHD means the new stem cells are trying to do their thing and establish in my system. I also developed a new (as yet) unknown blood infection, it is causing a little bit of an issue with my energy and strength. I am taking the maximum of I V anti-biotics to combat the new infection, and will find out this week if I need to have my Hickman catheter removed (the infection is in there too.) My best man Phil Wich from Oregon came up to visit this weekend and we had a great time catching up. Then Cam showed up with some of the best (and richest) cookies I have eaten (Thanks Kristin!) sometimes a guy is luckier than he deserves! Live Happy :)

I hope you get rid of that infection and keep getting better! You have some good friends and wonderful wife. We are both blessed that way. I lost track of my maid of honor, I should try to find out where she is. It was because of her that I met les. I bet there's a real vacation for you somewhere down the road.
Love, Cathy

Pretty good week, I paid attention to the Braves those darn Phillie's seem to be keeping up the pressure! We stopped by Yvonne's work today (they moved) and took a tour in preparation of her going back next month. I am still scheduled for release from the BMT program at the end of next week (8-19.) Love, Greg

Better be 100% when the wiffleball catches the outside corner. You won't even see it. You might hear it cross the plate. You're going DOWN in three. Start swinging a bat anyway.

Greg and Yvonne, I've been in self-imposed exile from my computer so I could start on some artwork (at home in the newly cleaned up studio space in the back of the garage) and cleaning up my office finally! School starts in a week and now I have to do prep and go to meetings. Greg-thank you for the very kind words in your last post. I am lucky to have married into such a neat family. We look forward to seeing you in Sept.!
How are all the infections? I hope they are waning. Both you and Cathy have been through so much--sometimes it just sucks. I am glad you are both sharing what is going on. But on the bright side we get up every morning and it is a new day. And did you really see RUSH?! That is so cool. Love that song you posted. KISS was worth every penny though Peter Criss and Ace Frehley were not there.
It has been in the 90s here for weeks. But we finally have tomatoes. Hope you are all doing okay. Great news that you are nearing 100 days!
Rock On!

Mary, you are most welcome. You have been so inspirational to me (and Cathy) and I often forget to say thanks. I did see Rush, most of the concert anyway as I got tired towards the end and we went home to visit. My friend Phil was digging the Band's playing the entire "Moving Pictures" album from 1981, they still rock that is for sure. I didn't comment much about our experience earlier, probably due to being a bad boy and mixing a bit too much with the general population when I probably shouldn't have been doing that. As you can tell, I still have some teen angst left in me, or maybe the new immunity system brought more than a new blood type! Good luck on the coming school year- Love, Greg

We need to be in that tourney next summer. Start lifting because I'm hitting bombs NOW. No warning track power, just flat muscling it out either side. Let's go!

Hey Greg,
I am taking a moment from the recently returned heat to catch up with you. We have had a great summer so far and this is Omak Stampede weekend so lots of tourists in town.

We are discovering all kinds of new places to ride, swim and hike. This is truly a playground!

I will hope the infections are under control and that you get to spend fewer days in Seattle. I am betting you have had your fill of the City and are ready to get back to good ole SE King County.

Best wishes!

Hi Linda. Thanks for sharing, the is that crazy downhill death ride still going on too? The complaints are already coming in with our heat and return of summer. We'll see how long it lasts. I am home and have been home for quite awhile, but drive in to Seattle too many days (every day this next week!) Greg
