Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

Sun King

I wanted to be the Sun King on my first full day of work free status today. The Seattle area is experiencing 78 today and 79 tomorrow with full sun, not a cloud to be seen. I worked my last day yesterday, turned in all of my gear, car, etc. and thought I was free and clear. A little Deja Vu hit us this morning, and sure enough I had a fever that continued to climb and felt pretty crummy. So off to the St. Joseph's Hospital E.R. at the request of my doctor. We got here at about 10AM and later admitted to the cancer floor, where Yvonne and I sit in another Deja Vu situation in room 10A1 (the first room I occupied when I was first diagnosed in October 2009.)
I have had some blood tests, x rays, and now am waiting for an MRI for a strange pain in my left leg. Tylenol took my fever down to a low manageable level pretty quick. The doctor wants to see what is causing these fevers and fatigue so I will stay overnight at least. John was the primary force behind Sun King, Paul George and John sang the three part harmonies. The Italian and Spanish words were thrown in for reasons only known to John. Part of the medley of side 2 of Abbey Road, Sun King is haunting even if it doesn't mean a whole lot. Please enjoy- like I am from my sunny room! My phone number is (253) 426-4101 room10A1

Oh no I feel bad for you. Were both dealing with a lot, sometimes I don't know how much more I can take. But we both have to hang in there I guess. I have to let God take the wheel. I hope they get your fever under control swiftly

Congratulations on your formal retirment; you will not regret it. I see a little bump you are going through but you will prevail. You need to focus on the two days of sun, it may just be the whole summer... :-)take care and Cathy you too...

Thanks Cathy and Bob! Cathy- I pray for you and wish that we could speak, my issue is minor in nature and my fever is already down to normal. They did an MRI of my leg, I'm hopeful that shows something they can work on. Stick in there and pray for medical breakthroughs.

well, so you know, the sun was over rated today...only got to 83 in Manson... but the shorts and t-shirt felt good and the water skiers looked like they were having fun. Had a down day myself so here's to a better tomorrow... take care and chin up.... TRex

P.S. congrats on retirement.. you are going to love it.

Greg, I am so sorry to hear about the fever. Maybe you need more cowbell?! :-) Laughter is always good. I hope you will be feeling better soon. Maybe it was all the big upheaval of retiring. What a huge emotional thing. But now you're free as a bird! And enjoying sun and blue skies.
Hang in there-you'll be feeling great soon. And we'll see you soon, too.
Love and prayers,
Mary

Congatulations on early retirement. I am envious of that part. But then again, may be not yet.. Sorry to hear you have to be back in the hospital again. Hope there is nothing wrong with your leg and you will be out in a day or two. Say hi to all lovely nurses for me.. In the meantime I am learning to live with the new side effects of nelarabine. Oh what joy that is!

I spiked up this afternoon, a 101.4 temp is real high for me. Yvonne and I are a little worried truth be told... They tried a new anti biotic called Ceftazidime so we will see.
Yvonne, call me-

Retired, wearing shorts everyday, enjoying the little things you realized you missed all these years, and, oh, you have anything to worry about? Nah. Wake up tomorrow, look out the window, and have the most awesome of days. It will be a Monday and all you have to do is live it. Damn, I am jealous. LiveSTRONG today and forever.

Good advice X. I am having my first pulmonary scope a little later this morning, the C.T. from Sunday showed some irregularities. I will of course tell the world what they are asap. I know it is just after 3 AM, my fever keeps going up and down and ... I wake up.

One heck of a way to begin your retirement. My hope is this is just another hicup on that road to a full recovery. Hang tough Greg, you have a lot of good people pulling for you, and and sending good karma in your direction. Tony P.

No results yet, but a long day of tests. 1) A bone marrow biopsy
2) A bronchial scope(fun with a tube up and down your nose to collect some fluid from the lungs.) As soon as I got back in my room the fever took off again. I will be receiving three anti biotics soon. Thanks again for the well wishes!

Shoot. Darn. Sounds like some serious stuff. And a rough day. I am so sorry to heat that. The weather here is sympatico with you-92 degrees. But going down to 80 tomorrow then even 60s on Wed.--what the?. Hope the fever subsides and your tests yield good news. You have that lovely, long, languid retirement awaiting out there. Sending good thoughts and prayers.
love, Mary D. (painting walls and ceilings all day.)

i don't mind a fever or two, or s strange pain in my leg. It's that the experts have no idea why these things are happening. I will be researching GVHD of the lungs, and legs next. My lungs showed spots, that should be a good start. I slept good in between the routine blood work, other interruptions for vitals, etc.
