Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

Come Together

New Photos:

On the way to mid mountain

St. Josephs famous plastic marijuana patch

I made it home from the hospital Thursday afternoon by way of the radiation clinic. These pictures show the radiation clinic and the first fun treatment. I will have 13 more days (M-F) of external targeted radiation of three sites along my spine and head. The first picture shows a good view of my brain tumor,  the second photo shows the way I am hooked to a table that moves around while the beams are sent towards the tumors. When I went through total body radiation before the bone marrow transplant it was much different, I just stood against a wall. So far after two treatments the inconvenience has waned, the time of the treatment also decreased a lot. I am hopeful as this phase of treatment continues Monday, It will be like working a part time job M-F the next two plus weeks, we will make the best of it. The hope is that the radiation will stop the growth of the lymphoma lesions as they are called, and that some chemo can then be introduced to salvage or get me to remission. We were planning some trips that will have to be changed as it looks like I am relegated to Tacoma for the next two months or so. Again, life is more important than playing. (are you listening out there?)
The Beatles last recorded album was Abbey Road, circa 1969. John led off the album with the double A side single (with Something). Come Together might be a song about the many sides of John, or some have said he was writing snippets about all four of the Beatles. Either way, it was a strange composition that turned out to be very bluesy. It was covered by Aerosmith and many other acts, and is still a popular Beatles Blues song. The attached cartoon in the spirit of Yellow Submarine, was free on Youtube- so there you go. Have a great weekend, enjoy the weather and come together to support one another. Live Happy and show some love when you can.

Wow... I agree with previous comments - you are amazing. My brother has said many times that positive attitude is everything. Continued support, prayers, positive energy is being sent from the Atlantic! You will get better to travel east someday soon or we will just have to travel west in 2012! Actually I would prefer both.
I think the Sox beat the Mariners last night! :) Edie

Hi Greg, My sister-in-law also had the radiation treatment map out for her by her doctor. She was also treating the same area, head and spine. She has very positive result from it. She wanted to have some good Los Angeles Chinese food at a restaurant, so my brother took her out. First time in about two months. It was bitter sweet. Wishing you the same good result and keep your spirit high and strong. We are all pulling for you with our prayers and happy thoughts! You are still very handsome! I am sure Yvonne agrees with me! :-) Live Strong!!

Hi Greg:

Wow, you have a lot to go through, but know that we are with you in thoughts and prayers. Though I am sad that you and Yvonne will not be here in September, I look forward to the re-schedule date. You never know, the Bff's may just jump on a plane and come see you! Stay strong, we are pulling for you.

I am so lucky to have so many female friends. You too Hank! We just got back from a nice hike up in the mountains, pictures to come. Sadie is in heaven. ECC- it does look like I will have to reschedule the east coast trip, will find out more this week as the experts from Fred Hutch chime in. Stay tuned! Red Sox nation in Seattle...

Nice picture dude. Will someone please take the colored magic markers away from Greg?!?!?

WTH? Red Sox Nation in Seattle? Listen, bone marrow from Boston is cool, but let's not take this too far. We may have the worst team in the league, but it is OUR worst team. If you start cheering for Tom Brady in September I will revoke my membership in the Disco Dymerski fan club. Seriously dude.

Greg,

I am reading your update from Madison, Wisconsin, home of my beloved Badgers and the area that Steve grew up in. One year ago today his sister shared her stem cells and Steve received his gift of life with his transplant. We are so very grateful to have had a matched sibling and to live so close to such excellent health care.

Another blessing we received was *your* support through our battles. I am very tied to you emotionally through the miles to the Pacific Northwest and wish you the BEST. I am absolutely blown away by your resolve, your tenacity, and your common sense. You inspire me, and I wish you a speedy journey over this speed bump.

Hugs from me to you and yours,

Sue

Wow, Greg-the pictures say it all. I amazed at what you are dealing with. I'm glad you posted them and are sharing what you are going through. I hope we can all take a little piece of your suffering away and make the load lighter. Great comments from everyone. We are sending constant prayers, love and good thoughts. Remember you are strong and loved. East Coasters, we heart you.
Thinking of you, Greg and Yvonne.

Those are very kind words Sue, I hope your life is beginning to normalize as best it can. You are a strong woman who personifies the term "care giver." Sorry X, but not being born an bred in Seattle I feel I can't quite adopt the Mariners, especially when they have such circumspect management, sort of like the King County Council.

Great pictures, plastic marijuana? Wow
You both look goog btw

I think someone who orders the plastic plants at St. Joes was "punked" or is just not very intelligent. When yo see the plant up close it really is a carbon copy of the well known marijuana seen from time to time in Portland.

For years and years the Black Diamond Restaurant had a plastic Marajuana plant in the restaurant area.

Just hopping on to say hope your weather beats ours - much like the Mariners did - ouch! Pooring buckets this AM. I like the comment about the markers :). Hang in there this week - every day is another day closer to ending this round of treatment.

ECC- The Braves came here in June and brought the broom. The Red Sox come in 2 games up in first place and leave hanging by a thread
? I'm just saying...

Capt. X: C'mon, join the Red Sox Nation band wagon...you know you want too. And about that Tom Brady...it's gonna be a great football season in New England. Are you ready for some football?? Okay, enough of the trash talk... Greg, I'm sorry that you have to endure yet another set back. You certainly are an inspiration to all of us. Keep fighting. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Looking forward to telling you this in person soon.

Waking up today was a mixed blessing, after three days of radiation the perceptible part of the head lesion is all but gone. I can't see or feel the other two... some arm pain that I am not sure about but hope is because the lesions are melting. Thanks for all of the prayers/support.

Thinking about You, Yvonne, and your family daily - you have super strength to get through this with everyone behind you pushing you forward. From pictures that I've seen on your blog - you are used to hiking up mountains!
