When I found the attached John Lennon video from the Mike Douglas Show (1972) I had to make a posting centered around the song. Imagine is of course one of the biggest hits ever by an ex-Beatle, and one of John Lennon's masterpieces. The lyrics are open for interpretation, the sections about no country and no religion for example made people wonder if John was anti a lot of things. Well... he was! At least at that time (1971.) John was anti-religion, anti-capitalist, and clearly anti-establishment. He was quoted as saying he toned it down for the song's release, in order to sell some albums/singles. This anthem to one-world thought is still a pretty melody, and has been used in many a memorial or sales pitch. But... John grew nine more years before he was killed and changed his views a number of times. The life and death of John Lennon shows how we can form opinions, live a little life, and maybe change our opinions as we live and experience the truth. The sad reality of today is that five-second sound bites tell us what to believe and at times I have to wonder if the idea of open-mindedness is alive or dead. I say toss your television news and experience life yourself. Thanks John!
Speaking of John, Yvonne and I started out on a road trip this past Sunday, one of our destinations was to visit my Dad John on his birthday. We made it to Logan Utah to say happy birthday, had a good time visiting with Dad and Alice, and my sister Cathy and her husband Les were also there.
We were going to continue our travels to Colorado and maybe even Nebraska- but yours truly developed some medical issues so we came home to get it checked out. I have an unexplained growth on my head that is still expanding, and will get the bump scanned today. There might be a biopsy too. Sadie was happy to see us again, so was our little garden. Live Happy!

Hi Greg:
Sorry to hear your trip was cut short and that you are facing another trial. Please know that we continue to pray for you and your family. We will keep you in our thoughts next week and will pray for a postive outcome.

No worries mate, the growth in your head is due to the brain growing back after your retirement. I don't know if you have noticed, but your posts are much more thoughtful and observant now, and I am sure you are as smart as before you entered police work. LiveSTRONG!
Greg...As I told my wife Paula "we will attack what ever comes next..." Keep up the positive thoughts and something I try to live by " attitude is over 50% of the battle..." This was said to me by my Medical Oncologist. She told me I would be surprised at what the mind can accomplish. Greg I am sure you have this part of the battle knocked from reading your blog. We are all looking forward to the Fall visit and know that with the group of good friends you have on the West Coast and the large contingent of friends on the East Coast there is no shortage of prayers and positive waves sent your way. Take care and God Bless.
I will be following your blog.

Rick, thank you for making me laugh! My brother Alan and his wife Mary will be offended, but isn't that the point? LOL To Mike, T-Rex, Mary-Beth, and X: I spoke to Edie (my donor) last night, it was emotional for me. Edie was very motivational and now I am one step closer to meeting and knowing her. It made my worries slim down, much like the lump did after the biopsy. LH, GD
G, Rumor has it that John Lennon was a closet conservative in his last few years, and a huge Ronald Reagan fan. Why not? He had, to that point, tried every other point of view. Nice to be rich and fly all over the world examining different religions and who know how many kinds of drugs.

John had become a family man by the end of his short life, in fact he was semi retired up to the last album, Double Fantasy. He decided to get back into it when his youngest son Sean was old enough to understand all of the rock and roll stuff. He was probably sick of seeing his taxes wasted by big government (the FBI was still watching him too.)
Greg-Glad you got to Utah for JD's birthday. I bet you all had a nice time together. Sorry we didn't make it. Great picture! We are bummed to hear that bump on the head is not going away. We pray for good results from the biopsy -X is right-it's just your brain recovering from your job. Yes, you have many people pulling for you all over the country (even in the quiet, low crime, friendly people, clean air and water, sunny skies, millions of stars at night through the pine trees, wide open spaces, no traffic and sprawl, one-stoplight, affordable land of Nebraska--Rick no offense taken-we like to keep Nebraska a secret :-)
Greg -we know you guys will be able to come here and visit soon. We'd love to have you. Rick, too.
Hang in there, Greg, you are strong and loved.

Hi Greg, My thoughts and prayers are with you for this unexpected development. I am thinking it is just a temporary condition that will go away. Glad you and Yvonne took a road trip, love the picture you posted. Take it easy and stay positive. My sister-in-law is also going under chemo for her medical condition, I heard she is doing OK. Live Strong and Happy! :-)
Greg, did you buy gold ? Love Dad
Hey, my man 5-0 (E)
Glad to see you're out and about, but sorry you had to come home early. I have plenty to tell you about Tough Mudder!
Let's hook up for java in some swanky Seattle cantina - just your kind of place.
I wish I bought some gold three weeks ago, a day late and a dollar short. Now we are going to hear the blame game about our financial "CRISIS" for the next week or more...
Greg,
Thinking of you today and hoping to hear good news!
love,
Mary D.
