I will have to admonish myself early here, as sometimes I share too much. A little later in the blog I will show some current pictures... This entry could have come straight from a Three Stooges episode.
I know most people are readying for Halloween, some eschew this made up almost-holiday. For the third year in a row we won't have our outside light on, and no candy given out. I don't dislike the neighborhood or bussed in kids, we will be missing the Halloween fun since I will be having dental work done for somewhere near six hours on October 31. Two crowns, and four other fillings all in one fell swoop. I visited the dentist a little bit back and discovered in six short months I developed a lot of decay probably due to the lack of saliva or dry mouth. One of the side effects of graft vs. host disease and Leukemia. Yvonne will be with me to drive me home as I will be partially sedated.
And then...
I am one of the clumsiest people I know, this week alone I ripped skin open three times, two on my right leg and one on my right arm. Every time I bump into something, the skin tears. We've had some plumbing problems and decided while we are fixing that, let's finish the master bath remodel. We have most of the stuff ordered, sinks, a new vanity, tile, and faucets. Today we started to demolish the old vanity. Then oops! I break a water valve while hammering a stubborn old vanity piece, rip open another piece of skin on my left arm and I forgot to shut the water off at the street. I created quite a flood in our upstairs, the water made its way down through several weak spots in our first floor ceiling and it took me two minutes to shut the water off (couldn't find the right kind of wrench!) I am glad I was not caught on video, I fell while running outside in my already soaked clothing, luckily it was in the grass and no more ripped skin! After all the calamity, I had to play an ode to Neil Young and his melancholy Don't Let It Bring You Down. Neil's song couldn't come at a better time. Neil wrote "Don't" in or around 1970 while he was also a member of the CSNY super group. It was on the After The Gold Rush album, staying pretty obscure to almost anyone who is not a fan of Neil.
Today's message is simple- we all face setbacks. Most of us continue to forge ahead. If I can't swim I ride a stationary bike. If that doesn't work I walk more. In my case taping my arms is the next step before I do any potentially dangerous work.
My blood clots seem to have improved to the point that I almost don't notice anything wrong. Other than some stressful times I am AOK. So please keep at whatever you are doing, give it your all. Live Happy!

Greg, maybe your over confidence causes you to be a little careless, not that there is any thing wrong with that. A little twist on a Seinfield Episopde. Take care of yourself, we love you. Dad and Alice
BRAVO to the remodeler, and WOW to another similarity we have. Steve renovated our (somewhat unloved) hall bath before his diagnosis, a beautiful testament to his incredible skills. Over $6k in fixtures (he got them at cost since he was still connected to the industry), so now no one wants to use the other two full baths. The spa shower has provided us so much comfort, as it did his aching body during his home times from treatment and then his recovery. Must admit I was laughing at your Stooges moments, all you were missing was the 2 x 4 clunk to the head!
Now I think I have broken clay sewer piping, GAH. To make it worse, the pipe runs *under* our swimming pool. (Enter your Beatles, "Imagine," this time with lyrics dealing with money.) So I feel your plumbing pain, my friend! :)
Good luck tomorrow, dental stuff was never my strong suit, but now I can conquer anything after watching Steve. He is my example of strength. Hugs to you.

Thanks Sue, sorry about the Wisconsin loss. Hank, we are due for some sun for sure. Dad- carelessness and I all well acquainted, I just need to let him go...
Oh ouch! I hope things improve for you. You are a true survivor in every sense of the word. I will blog soon, Its been a long time.
Love, Cathy
Greg, you are a true friend to share my Badger sadness....Heisman, Big Ten Championship, and probably Rose Bowl, POOF! as my sister-in-law said. Thanks, Purdue is next, and I feel Penn State could be trouble, ol' Joe Pa is mad 'cause we broke his leg.
I'll see if I can find some spare WTO/DMT gear prior to your next foray into remodeling. And a bike helmet might make a smart fashion statement when you venture out of the house from now on. No wonder you like swimming, although watch the flip turns!
What is not funny is that describes just about every attempt I have ever made at home improvement!
LiveSTRONG!
X, it took me awhile but I did learn my lesson. The tile guys will be happy to finish the demo so I don't have to wrap up like a mummy. Yeah yeah yeah! It might have been different if I didn't turn all my gear in at retirement.
How about a Blow up Sumo suit, things like a restroom might be a little awkward, but OH Well ! :-)
Oh my! Here is hoping the home improvements keep improving!
Good luck with the Dental remodel too! $$$$
I think I will buy stock in Band-aids :)
Hope you have a fabulous rest of your week!
I won't let the not so good bring me down. Thanks to all of the support I get Edie! And those cells of yours are doing their job really good right now.
Oh Greg, that sounds a bit rough but you know, ya just gotta laugh. Remodeling is great for that. You guys are troopers for sure. We're too chicken and hired most of ours out. Alan did pull a dishwasher out all by himself and managed to shut off electricity and water or it might have been mayhem. He also put back in a storm window he had pushed out.
Hope the dental work is fairly painless but, pphhfftt, after what you've been through-cakewalk. For all the scrapes, you need full body Carharts. That's what everyone wears here.
Keep the faith and above all, a sense of humor!
love and prayers,
Mary D.
Hey Greg.. I have found myself watching Rennovation Reality on the DIY channel just so I do not attempt remodeling on my own. We have completed some major work over here.. you would not recognize the place.. most especially, we now have a basement with stamped concrete floor to look like wood planks.. pretty cool and way above my skill level.
Weather is changing with a prediction of snow on Wed. I am heading over to Idaho to run dogs with the guy I bought four of the six from.. then to a dryland race in Spokane next weekend. I picked up a kids ATV with no engine and have hooked the dogs to that.. we FLY!!
Hope the dental work went well.. not anyone's favorite I expect.
Hang in there..
Linda
Mary, did you get a chance to watch "Cedar Rapids" yet? It is so funny, especially to sometimes-shallow guys like me and Alan. Linda, I should have hired you! At least you see blue sky with the cold. We are going east for my b-day this week too. Just a short break from gray will do us good. My dental appt went well Mary, 3pm to 830PM and he didn't even finish. But very little pain.
Have a good trip and I'm glad that your teeth are done!
Greg , enjoy your new adventures this week and into the future. Love dad and Alice
HB young feller
Greg, hope you had a great bday and a good getaway. We sent two things in the mail. One should arrive this week. No, I haven't seen the movie, Cedar Rapids, but saw previews--it looks pretty funny. But they never stepped foot in Cedar Rapids to film it. Their loss. (They could have made it even more humorous.)
Hope the skin is healing up and you are enjoying smooth sailing!
love and prayers,
Mary D.
G Fresh, your ordeal and the comments may give me some good Christmas gift ideas. Gives new meaning to the advantages and importance of having thick skin. Looking forward to seeing you and the Dewmeister for poker night. Hope it works out. May call Dewey and ask for some lessons before the game. Getting tired of him taking my money!!! Dewey, if you are listening, how about it? Help an old captain out. Need some tips on your casual, aggressive, successful poker skills. Probably a good thing I am not a better poker player though. Would spend too much time on the Snoqualmie reservation. Cambo
Time for a new post, Mary thanks for the great gifts, they arrived Friday. C dog, I will give you a call.
Greg, assume you are back at home. Drop a line when you can . Love Dad and Alice
