Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

Happy 2nd new Birthday

This post is in honor of Greg`s bone marrow donor Edie!

Today marks the anniversary of his transplant and it would have been Greg`s official 2nd new birthday. In the transplant world the day the new stem cells were infused is considered a new birthday. Greg was  fortunate to have made it 23 more months.

I want to send thanks to Edie! His bone marrow donor for giving all of us 23 more months with Greg! What a generous and selfless act to do for a complete stranger. We just recently got to meet Edie and some of her wonderful family. It is all kept anonymous for a year until all parties agree to make contact. The only contact that can be made are letters that go through a 3rd party.

In getting to get to know Edie, she is such a kind and wonderful person. She and her family soon became part out extended family.  Greg and I were so lucky to be able to connect on all levels with a complete stranger who help prolong another person`s life. This is why getting on the registry such as` Be the match` is so important.

Edie we all love you from our family to yours.

This Monday into Tuesday  marks the 3rd week of Greg`s passing. He was so lucky to have made it 2 1/2 years. Yes there were complications but it could have so much worse. For that I am thankful.

Live Happy! Yvonne

Yvonne, what a wonderful post. I am so very happy that you were able to meet Edie, Kevin, Chris and Kathy. They are awesome people. This journey has given all of us in the ECC a chance to get to know you and Greg and for that we are blessed. I think of you every day as Edie and I chat on her ride home and the both of you seem to make it into our conversations.

Be well.

Edie: I want to thank you for the time you gave Greg, without you he would not have had the chance to touch the many people he did with his blog, we all will be forever grateful for the scrafice you and your husband made for Greg,Yvonne and their family. I know in the whole scheme of things a second birthday doesn't seem like much but to those that knew him, it was very important. Thank you again, GOD bless you and yours. phil

Oh Yvonne, what a wonderful tribute to both Edie and Greg! Yes indeed, Edie's gift of life was a true blessing for ALL of us who knew Greg as the incredible human being he was! Thank you, Edie, and thank you too Yvonne for continuing Greg's blog!! No doubt in my mind he is grinning ear to ear in his new, pain-free spirit form, so happy that through his blog we can ALL stay close at least in thought with you and your family... And, THAT is what I believe he hoped would happen... The never-ending, ever-expanding circle of Love that surrounds us... God DOES bless you, yours, and anyone/everyone with an open heart... Many hugs to you as you traverse this mundane path in a new way... Much Love... KKW

Yvonne, a lovely tribute to Greg and Edie. I thought about you all yesterday on Greg's new birthday. It was not an easy 2 years for him, however, he touched many people with his courage and words of wisdom.

Stay strong.

I was thinking abut Greg yesterday as I walked downtown in the sunshine. The 23 months that, that through Edie's generosity, Greg was given, ended up being a gift for all who knew him.

Thank to all for all of you love and support. Greg`s transplant days will always be remembered. I hope I get to pay forward someday.

I had pictures but taking over the blog and settings has not been easy since I am not computer savvy.

Thank you Yvonne - you are a very special lady.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words.
From my heart I wish I could've donated again if it would have given us all more time to spend with Greg, read his words of wisdom, listen to his music choices (Yvonne I liked the Beatles song!), and "live happy". The first year I imagined who this man was, what did he stand for, was he loved, was he short, did he have children, where did he live? Then I had my answers - he was married to a beautiful woman, he had 3 wonderful kids, lived in Seattle, he was tall, he was kind and sensitive, he wrote beautifully, and loved music - I could go on & on.
I was the lucky one to have been able to help. I wish it was for longer.
Join the bone marrow registery in honor of Greg. Love Edie

Yvonne and Edie and everyone else...such wonderful and touching words. Brings many tears to my eyes, mostly of joy. Edie and family, thank you so much. What an amazing, incredible thing you did for someone you did not even know...what being here on this earth is all about. We hope we can make it back to the East Coast again and when we do, that we can meet you.
love,
Mary D.
