Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

I am home still getting over the effects of two a day chemo treatments. I feel like i am getting stronger every day. I have headaches which are concerning, but hopefully my "staging" and full prognosis will be completed soon. I am exercising by walking right now and am up to 1.5 miles a day. Any posts or questions are welcome!

I should say for those who did not know how this came to be.

I am happy to be alive. Came down with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma Cancer Sept. 28 2009. I was saved by several key people who I have to acknowledge.
My Wife Yvonne is first- she made me realize that I am not all knowing and that I needed help. She pushed me to accept the help and cared like no other.
Second- P.A. Ed Lopez of Enumclaw Community Memorial Hospital. He took charge and made sure I was referred to the right people who could help me.
Third, Dr. Baiya Krishnadasan saw me when I arrived at Tacoma's St. Josephs, made sure my lung was drained of poison and carried through with with my care even though another oncologist would be my doctor from then on.
Dr. Frank Senecal took on my case as an oncologist from Heaven and continues to work with me.

My experience is not any different that many others, I am grateful for support, well wishes, prayers, and so many considerate people willing to help.

The law enforcement community is filled with service oriented people who I am proud to stand with. Take care, support each other, and be there for someone when they need it most. Lou Gehrig was quoted as saying when he discovered his illness that he was the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I feel the same way.

G, I know this pic of me from 1983 is your favorite so I thought I would use it here. Hope it makes you laugh as much as it makes Kristin laugh. Remember when we talked a few weeks ago after you had surgery and you asked me not to make you laugh cause it hurt? Don't you know me well enough to know that was the wrong thing to say? I hope it did not hurt too much, but honestly I could not help myself. Sending nothing but Aloha thoughts brudda. Cambo

You are the strongest man i've ever met and am proud to have you as a father. You've always been there to teach me values, guide me, and tease me. this will just be a bump in the road, with a strong mind and people looking over you will easily be overcomed. Love you and cant wait to see you soon.

G, the comments from your children are quite a reflection of what kind of man you are and what kind of father you are. No surprise to me. Cambo

"Lovely Rita"

I was in the Dr. Office for the first time since Chemo on Friday the 17th. I got to work with Rita who took some blood and showed me what it was like to get chemo "on the go." Rita wasn't so lovely when she called later and told me my labs were off- she later corrected herself and became lovely again when she said my appointment for Monday the 19th is still on for another dose of 1 time only Chemo. I also have an MRI and consult with Dr. Senecal scheduled for Monday.

"Getting Better"

It is getting better all the time thanks to the positive comments. For the un-Beatles out there, my posts from now on will include a reference to a Beatles song. Getting Better is of course from the 1967 Sgt. Peppers album. I am getting better with all of the positive reinforcement whether from my great children, stateside or the Islands.

"In My Life"

From 1965 and Rubber Soul- John tried to say in song how much all of the people in his life had contributed to his success. Then he waxed poetic about his true love. In my life- my wife, family, children, and friends have all mattered and make me very proud.

"Day Tripper"

This is one of the first of the "drug" influenced songs by the Beatles. It was released as a double A side single in 1965. Since I did not write down every drug they gave me during the I V chemo, I though I'd share all of the drugs they want me to take during post chemo. Say these five really fast: Dexamethasone, Prochlorperazine, Ondansetron, Lorazepam, Neupogen. Can't make it rhyme? NEITHER CAN I!

I am sure most of the chemo patients out there have just as strange stories about what the effects do without some drug support, or with all of the drug support. My goal is to be less of a day tripper and more of a Mother Nature's Son.

I love the Beatles too, their songs have good lyrics. Did not have any of their records since my parents are pretty strict about Rock and Roll music. I would love to learn more about the Beatles. I am going to google the song titles you have listed so far and listen to them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your progress. I am very touched by the loving support of your family!!!! You can and will beat this....I know you will!!!

Oh, and pretend all the medications you have to take are just different color M & M's!! ;-)
