Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"Hey Jude"

I am using "Hey Jude" as my title today for a number of reasons. I had a single day chemo treatment at the end of Monday Oct 19, and then met with Dr. Senecal who was forthcoming and gave me the cold hard truth dosed with some positives. In 1968 (what a year! I was lucky enough to own three cars from '68- a Ford Galaxie 500, Chev Camaro, and Chev Malibu.) Paul was driving to visit Cynthia and Julian Lennon to touch bases with the pair after learning that John had left the family for Yoko. Paul wrote Hey Jules- later titled Hey Jude to help console young Julian and his mother concerning the break up news. The song went on to become not just a beautiful ballad- perhaps the first power rock anthem of all time sung along by millions.

In reference to my Dr. news- Dr. Senecal gave me the hard truth first- while not at a certain stage I have a 25% chance of cure. He went on to state that I would need intensive chemo sessions every three weeks (8 total). After all of that I could go into remission or cure, or not. Next came the potential positive. If I am lucky enough to find a blood/bone marrow donor and have an inpatient bone marrow transplant and Fred Hutch (SCCA) I could increase my odds by about half. The only downside to a bone marrow transplant is the 35% who die during transplant statistic. More tests, (get ready Brother Alan!) and bloodwork needs to be completed before any of that can happen.

Like Hey Jude, I am finding the movement I need on my shoulder and starting to make it better. Back to work at least on a limited basis today! Heck, just getting paperwork in order is work. I will find a sad song and make it better. I ask that those that follow me and want to help do the same thing.

Love- Greg

Greg, I'm so happy you've made this blog; To prepare for the worst is good, but to prepare to have hope is even greater. I will keep you and the family in my prayers, and ask God to provide you with a donor. I've always known that if you ask God to provide for you, he always provides you with what you need! I also know that when he closes one door, he never leaves us with a door that we cant walk through.

Hi Greg, I also pray you will find a donor, my blood type is B+, please let me know if I can be one of the potential donors. I will be honored if I get picked!!!! :-)

In 1976, I fell hard for a boy who is very active, first place in high jump and long jump, swimming, on the basketball team, volley ball team, taught our music teacher how to play tennis. A natural athlete like yourself. He never even looked at me. I am not his type. However, I cannot forget him no matter how hard I tried. Hence the email address.

Currently, I am happy with my two children. I have friends who are kind, generous. They helped me when I needed help. I just want to do the same for all my friends too. Please do not be afraid to ask for help, we are happy to help; we will jump in with both our feet!!!!!

Have a good day!! Alice

Yes, a friend from Logan, Dana Worley, who did the walk for cancer this past year, concurred that Greg is a good writer after taking a look at his blog. Your second career! She sends her prayers and good thoughts as do I.
Dreary, cold, and very foggy here in the Nebraska Panhandle. Goes with the difficult news we read on here today. But you are a tough endurance athlete and you will persevere.
Yes, your bro was sleeping at that time and snoring like a chain saw.

Thanks for the positivity my dear friends and family! Your are much too nice. I will try to keep up with this daily and answer any questions folks might have. I really appreciate the support more than anyone knows. I am working on a better positive day for tomorrow after spending a few hours visiting (with Sadie) at the RJC Office today. I got to say thanks to a lot of supportive people and just show my still hair filled ugly mug around. It wa sa great day!

Greg, my favorite song is Imagine and you can probably guess why. I wish you all the wonderful sentiments in that song as you go through this time. You are a truly amazing and good person and it's been my pleasure just to have worked with you the little we have. My daughter had cancer 3 years ago and that was the hardest thing I've ever gone through, she's cancer free today and life is good!!! Please know my thoughts are with you and if there's anything I can do please don't hesitate to let me know, Kathi Oglesby
