Welcome to my Blog
I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"The Fool On The Hill"
Good morning, we set a new low temp record in Seattle last night, it's a toasty 15 here at our house. Paul McCartney wrote "Fool" in 1967 reportedly about his experience with the Maharishi in India. It was included on the Magical Mystery Tour EP. I use it today because I was a good example of being a fool on the hill Monday. I took Natalie and Sam up to the the mountains in search of Christmas trees with forest permits. We were the only people on the road, and as it turned out we did not have cell coverage or anything else really to help us survive getting stuck in snow and ditches four times. We all got to dig out using implements like tree branches, and the two saws I brought along for the ride. The event turned into a bonding experience, and when it started to get dark the bonding became a bit more like survival. I learned to carry chains even when I didn't think I'd need them, Natalie learned to leave her purse at home, and Sam learned I take too many chances. *My chemo session slated for today has been pushed back at least a day, hopefully I start tomorrow. Have a good hump-day!

A memorable Christmas tree! Please tell me you didn't use her purse for traction...
Wow, that sounds like a burrrrrrr experience!! Glad to know you are all back at home safe and warm now! My thoughts will be with you tomorrow....take it easy! Take care!! :-)
After all that we need to see the tree! Post a pic of it. God was watching over you all. I'm glad you had the time with your daughter and son in law. He's getting to know all about us :) You have always been willing to try and take risks, that's how you came so far in your career. I'll keep you in my prayers as you start chemo the following days. God Bless you.
Love, Cathy
Wow, hope you all are ok. Good luck on your chemo and we will see you in two weeks.
love Dad and Alice
Oh, my! That is a bit scary. We are glad you all made it back okay. Yes, that will be a Christmas tree to never forget. Yes, Cathy is right. Taking risks can take us places. Hopefully good places!
Must run in the family. Alan had me out tromping about in the snow last night with flashlights, 40 yards from the house, following fairly fresh mountain lion tracks. Then we found a site of its deer kill and followed the drag path back to the top of our ridge. This morning (7 below zero) we followed the rest of the drag path down the other side of the ridge and found what was left of the deer partially buried. And more fresh mountain lion tracks.
The wilderness always provides excitement, (yes, risk) thankfulness, wonder and rejuvenation! [1. to make young again; restore to youthful vigor, appearance, etc.: 2. to restore to a former state; make fresh or new again]
Greg, hoping the chemo goes well and ultimately are restored to your full vigor! You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Greg, Recently we read about a family in your area that spent a couple of days in their car after cutting their Christmas tree. Glad that wasn't you. They finally did get out safely.
We got some leftover midwest snow last night (6 inches) followed by some New York sleet to freeze it into big concrete-like blocks. Hoping for a melt.
We're thinking of you and praying to give you strength tomorrow.
love,
John & Rosalie
Wow.. what an adventure. See, there is a purpose for a team of dogs. Think of how much fun it would have been to have the dogs pull you out of the ditch.. however, they usually want to stay in the truck where it is warm. It is just under 10 degrees and though sunny is still pretty darn cold.
Best wishes for a successful chemo session and stay warm!!
Linda
After all that, no tree! We drank our hot chocolate and I tried to mend my ego. I appreciate the good cheer though. Hopefully I get to start my chemo session 4 Thursday. Over and out for now...
And... we didn't see any fresh kills thank God. Wow Mary- your adventures are adventures.
