Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"Boys"

First of all, I am thankful that the Seattle Police Officer who confronted wanted killer Maurice Clemmons this morning is OK. I hope the ending of Clemmons' life will help the Lakewood Officers families and loved ones to start healing.

In 1963 the Beatles produced their first album in the U.K., Please Please Me. In the early days the Beatles didn't write all of their songs and actually covered several songs on the album, including two performed by the Shirelles. "Boys" was one of the standards that they had been performing live before recording albums, and turned out to be the first Ringo song on any Beatles album. The Beatles version is a bit of a rocker as they tried to showcase Ringo's vocal talents. I found this live Spanish version of probably an old European T.V. show to share today.

News: I discovered last night that as I move forward with treatment, Fred Hutchison Cancer Center will not be an option for a bone marrow transplant (There is a contract dispute between U.W. and the insurance company. The "Hutch" would make me pay out of contract fees which would be tremendously expensive as they say Aetna doesn't pay enough to them...) My Brother Alan is not a suitable donor for me either. I am grateful for his willingness to get tested, it just wasn't a match. If I get to remission I will have to go out of state with a national registry donor for a bone marrow transplant if I want to go further than chemo. Keep rocking!

I am happy that justice is finally done! I do not feel sorry for the death of the person who killed the four officers, he should not have done that. Glad to hear the officer who shot him is doing OK.

Very sorry to hear about the problem you and your family are facing in this battle in your recovery. My heart goes out to you and your family today in sincere hope and best wishes that there will be someone who will be your match out there to help you. You are a good friend and I really want to see you and your family win this one!!!!! My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Peace and Love

I am very upset with your insurance situation, and frustrated at my inability to donate. Maybe wouldn't hurt to consult an attorney? My thought and prayers are with you as well.

Dad,

When I am home do you have any doctor appointments? If not can you make an appointment for me to get checked to see if I would be a match? There is always a chance for what if's...it would mean a lot to me just to check to see if I am a match.

I hope work is going well today. Just to be clear the officer found the man that shot the four police officers and got into a confrontation and shot the guy himself? I hope this is the case...I also hope that he is ok.

I love you.

Love, Natalie (talk to you soon...)

I am glad to hear the situation in Seattle may be resolved. Now we'll pray for the situation with finding a donor and the insurance to be resolved. I can't believe Alan is not a match. I thought that would be a sure thing. So many ups and downs. It is a cold and gloomy day here. Guess winter is coming back. Stay strong and keep going. It is all we can do.

Greg,
please ask your Doctors if I can be a donor? I don't have an autoimmune disorder. Tell them that it's muscle atrophy and that I'm stable. let's make sure, if it's safe for you I will do it. My doctor isn't a Oncologist, he's a neurologist. i just want to make sure! Let me know what they say. I read that siblings are the best family chance.

Thanks for the comments family and friends. I have not expired all recourse just yet. My next donor option is alive and well in the national registry. That being said, we have some insurance where I would go issue to work out first. Children and other family members are only last ditch efforts after a national search is done and not successful. I am not worried. Love, Greg

Cathy, I will check and just so you know your doctor would have to give the O.K., my doctor is just the go between. If you want to ask your Dr. that's fine. Again, no worries. Love- Greg
