Welcome to my Blog

I chose the title of this blog to go with a Beatles song from 1969. The title made sense in October of 2009 because fighting cancer might be a drawn out challenge. I take inspiration where I can, and hope to motivate with my musings about music, my status and anything else related to life. Anyone can post comments; no sign in or account is needed, just click on the comments section towards the bottom of the post and write me a note. A splendid time is guaranteed for all. Live Happy- Greg

"You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"

It was early 1965 and the Beatles, especially John Lennon were influenced by Bob Dylan. Just as Bob was going electric from acoustic, the Beatles were tending to go acoustic from electric in songs like this. Originally released on the Help album and soundtrack to the film, "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" has been debated over the years as to the true meaning of the song. The title itself might suggest a hidden meaning. John  never commented specifically about this song other than a reference to Dylan (after he wrote it.) Others mentioned references to affairs, Brian Epstein and his homosexuality (which was illegal at the time in England.) The bottom line is the attached video is of great quality and the song has always been known as an acoustic masterpiece. The opening lyric sets the tone: "Here I stand head in hand; Turn my face to the wall; If she's gone I can't go on; Feeling two foot small."

Yep, I came home last night to find the biggest noggin ever! Bare heads are kind of bumpy! Never seen Alan with absolutely no hair. But all for an excellent cause. Glad the Buzz night was a rousing success. Hope this round of chemo is going well and you are feeling good and strong with so many people supporting you! We are all here and thinking of you. We saw another shooting star on our Thursday night milky way run. And we made a wish. We'll try and call tonight. Much love and fuzzy head rubbing to you.

You are welcome Alice, sorry I missed you the other night- had to get back to the hospital.

Dad- I had a good night for most of it anyway. I get some night sweats but no headaches or pains right now. I am going home tonight a bit early thanks to how well I am handling the chemo. We received a sink and hope to install it tomorrow in the entry bathroom. Last but not least Andrew leaves Monday morning. :) Greg

Greg,
It was nice talking to you last night. Saw the komo news piece--that was great! Looked like lots of good folks. It was nice to see you in the video. You look good--a little thin. Keep eating steak. We are getting a grass-fed/30-day corn-fed locally raised and packed Texas longhorn quarter of beef soon and if we can, we'll bring you some from the heart of beef country.
We did a long run last night on our pine ridge plateau through dried golden grasses, dark pines, black cattle, windmills and a lone coyote who howled and set off a whole pack howling at the sunset and crescent moon. This morning we saw a 4 point buck deer in the yard who has successfully survived hunting season which ended yesterday. A good omen!
Hope you are not feeling too bad after this last session.
Howl at the moon! Be the buck!

hi Greg.
Steve Olson here. I just found out about all this this morning by accident. I am trying to put this all in it's place and it is very hard for me right now. Judging from this blog it seems that you are going about this with the right attitude. You have so many friends behind you for this battle. So many thoughts about our riendship. I love you man! If anyone has a chance to beat this you do. I'm getting ready to post some music on Youtube under the "firemanoly" channel. Do you have any requests? I am open to just about anything except for anything by Bananarama. Please, please let me know if there is anything that you need that I can help with okay? I'll be back when I can pull myself together. Give Yvonne and the kids our love.
Steve.

FiremanOly- I could learn something from you! Thanks for the message. Any music is fine with me, have you checked out anything new like Joshua Radin or Five for fighting? Mary and Cathy- I am feeling much better after ten hours of sleep last night. I am working some today then have the rest of the week off. I will update the blog tomorrow with a message, running behind a bit right now. Love, Greg
